This info was posted on the Scot-Rail yahoo group by James H

Thanks for the links....

Looks interesting but I have to say all this was discussed before by SPT in
the late 1980s and nothing ever came of it....SPT should consider instead
reviving the StrathClydeTram project shelved in the late 1990s. That project
anticipated the use of the Kelvinbridge tunnel for light rail/tram use...

It's not as busy as it should be.
I dare say it'd be busier if the denizens of uk.railway (who seem to
have infinite time to kill) could be encouraged to cross-post relevant
threads to this and other similar local groups..

Is that still 90% strings of low-time-to-live "spotting" numbers
<yaawnn> / 10% information, or has it improved? :-(

Hmm, interesting.

But wait, haven't we been here before..?

1995:
StrathClyde Tram and CrossRail announced with much fanfare.
M77 quietly (well, noisily and not without putting up a fight) built in
the background.

1996(ish):
StrathClyde Tram and CrossRail proposals mysteriously vanish..
Business as usual for the grate kar eCONomy..

2005:
Subway expansion announced.
M74 (a 'bargain' at up to £1000M for 5 miles) given the nod, despite the
Government's own Reporters finding against it.

2006..

Do I detect a theme here?

More like 2/3rds sightings and gen and 1/3rd discussion and news I think
(but I'm not going to count emails so don't shoot me down in flames if
that split is wrong). Easy enough to filter most of the '<yaawn>' posts
if you want to though.

Cheers,
