Evening News Online 08/11/04

EDINBURGH?S airport rail link will attract more than three million
passengers a year by 2020, the company behind the scheme claimed today....

...."This new link, along with the proposed Glasgow airport rail link, will
offer real transport choices and improve the quality of people?s journeys.
With more direct flights available from our airports, these new rail links
will open up even more business and tourism opportunities."

Airport rail link set to attract millions
Sounds very unlikely. What the link will do is make travel from the airport
to Edinburgh and other towns and cities more convenient than it is now. I
can't believe that a railway to the airport will attract anyone, let alone
"millions."

Agree with you there, more nonsense from the "pro" lobby. In the
leaflet going about canvassing people's opinions they questions are so
clearly leading, "Do you think a rail link will be good for the
airport?" Well of course it'll be bloody good but the money would be
much better spent elsewhere!

Like where?!? In the year 2004 it's *not* a good idea for a major
metropolitan city to have a direct rail link to it's airport because "the
money would be much better spent elsewhere?"

Why not, seemingly 30% of people who use Prestwick (equates to 645,190
passengers per year, or 1777 per day) get there by train, and thats without
a dedicated service - just a station and passengers travelling on
(overcrowded) Ayr services.
