Train derailment causing delays
Rail passengers face delays after a low speed train derailed at
Inverurie Station in Aberdeenshire.
The 0625GMT ScotRail Aberdeen to Inverness service was carrying 16
passengers and two staff when it left the rails just before 0700GMT.
A signal failure at the station forced it to change route and off the
track.
No-one was injured and passengers were bussed between Dyce and Huntly
with no indication as to when the route would be reopened.
ScotRail said the Class 170 Turbostar was travelling at walking speed
when the incident occurred.
It described it as a "minor incident" and denied the train had
suffered a derailment.
The ScotRail statement said: "Train services on the Aberdeen to
Inverness line will be disrupted today following a minor incident at
Inverurie this morning when the 0625 Aberdeen to Inverness service
damaged a set of points following a shunting move in the station.
"The train was travelling at walking speed and has not been derailed.
"There were no injuries to any of the 16 passengers on board.
"They have been taken onwards by bus to Inverness.
" A full investigation is already under way and Network Rail engineers
are still assessing the damaged track."
There is no indication when the track will reopen with passengers
being bussed between Dyce and Huntly in the meantime.
